Objective: Raise students' energy.
Step by step instructions
- Explain to the youth that In this game, they will have a series of commands from a “boss” that they’ll have to follow. The boss (whoever is standing in the middle of the circle) will slowly turn around and then, at random, point to a person in the circle and yell a command. That person, as well as the people to his left and right, will have to do the command immediately. If they don’t, they are out – or have to come into the middle of the circle and be the new boss. The commands are as follows:
Washing machine: The person who is pointed to begins spinning around (like clothes in a washing machine) while the people to her right and left hold their arms in a circle around her (like a washing machine basin).
Elephant: The person who is pointed to makes a “trunk” with his arms and trumpets like an elephant, while the people to his right and left hold their arms next to him like giant elephant ears.
Rock band: The person who is pointed to sings into an imaginary microphone and tosses her hair around, while the people to the right and left play air guitar.
Toaster: The person who is pointed to jumps up and down (like a piece of bread popping out of a toaster) while the people to her right and left hold their arms in a circle around her (like a toaster).
Kangaroo: The person who is pointed to encircles the people to his right and left with his arms (like he is taking them into his “pouch”). All three players jump up and down together like a kangaroo.
- You should ask for volunteers to help you demonstrate each of the commands before you start. Then ask the group to stand in a circle and begin playing!
- If you want to increase the level of challenge, call out commands to different players quickly, or add additional new commands (fish, camel, chicken, microwave, mixer, palm trees).
